
Phyllis was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan on October 10th 1941. She was the 5th of 6 children born to John and Catherine Flaga. She grew up in the Macomb township area, starting her early schooling at Hartway School , a one-room schoolhouse. She then transferred to St. Mary’s School in the 6th grade. She graduated from St. Mary’s in the Class of 1959. She met her husband, Henry (Hank) Miller while in school and saved him a seat on the school bus. He entered the U.S.A.F., and she was employed by the United Bulb Company. In May they will celebrate their 62nd Wedding Anniversary. From 1970-1989 they owned and operated Treasure Land, and The Movie Store in Clinton Township. During this time. She was involved in PTA at Seminole School, as well as Daisies/Girl Scouts, and 15 years with the Cubs and Boy Scouts.
Their children , Robert, John, Judie and Maria attended Mount Clemens High School. So that included Band and Orchestra Boosters. After they closed their store, she was employed by Crowley’s, and the Pennysaver.
Once they became grandparents in 1991, she then spent many hours baby-sitting many of their 9 grand-children. Robert, Zach, Jake, Selina, Breanna, Genevieve, Elise, Matthew and Brett. Last September came the addition of their first Great Grandchild, Caden.
A lifetime member of St. Peter’s church she was a charter member of the adoration group from 1984-2021 when it was eliminated. She will celebrate her 20th anniversary with the volunteer group called Angels for Hope this August. She has been a member of the Matthew Prayer Shawl Ministry for 22 years. She and her sister, Shirley Roland are Charter members of the D.O.M.
She has enjoyed sewing, crocheting , quilting, and many forms of needlework over the years. She has also enjoyed writing notes and cards to family/friends.
She is thrilled and honored to have been selected to serve as 2026 Grand D.O.M.
